This is a bogus message. It isn't possible for anyone to have address 1:396/4 - it's not open to the public and has no user interface. 1:396/4 is simply the address of the stand-alone NewsGate machine. Anyone posting to the alt.bbs.synchronet newsgroup would have to post from a FidoNet address and be linked to my ALT-BBS-SYNCRHONET echo. There'd be a dead giveaway who's posting; their address would show up in the "+ User FidoNet address" kludge.

This isn't the first time someone has tried to do this crap - it didn't come from here or I'd have a log of it and could cut that Node off straightaway. Feel free to post this to the newsgroup if you wish.

Your system appears to be echoing back to USENET some messages that it receives *from* USENET. I have have about 50 example messages here in alt.bbs.synchronet going back to 2024, here's the oldest example:

Nothing about this appears "bogus". From the tag/origin lines, I see the message was originally posted by MRO to Vertrauen which then exported it via NNTP to alt.bbs.synchronet and then "The FidoNet News Gate" (isn't that your system?) also exported the message back to alt.bbs.synchronet where it was then re-imported back into Vertrauen, thus completing a dupe loop.
