Has anyone heard from Slinky (aka Steve Bennett) of Slinky's Place BBS / Game Portal lately?

I saw an upsetting message about him posted in the User Chat wall in Game Portal today, and, since I'm uncertain when it was posted, am hoping it's just a really bad April Fools joke.

why would it be an april fool's joke? seems like it's legit.

you really think someone would do a april fool's joke like that?
that's not even a joke.

I'm not sure where he's from but i've seen him around over the years. I contacted his wife.

I'm not sure where he's from but i've seen him around over the years. I contacted his wife.

I didn't know Slinky, but yea - it sounds like a real post from his wife. My partner knows how much I love BBSing, and about 2oFB - maybe she's interested in keeping it going, or passing it to some other sysop to keep it up.

I didn't know Slinky, but yea - it sounds like a real post from his wife. My partner knows how much I love BBSing, and about 2oFB - maybe she's interested in keeping it going, or passing it to some other sysop to keep it up.

i'm not going to take over his system. i did that with datastream and i've been doing that since like 2006. i told her i would help her.
i'm sure she's got bigger problems right now.

i'm not sure why his regular bbs is down but his game server is up and that's where she posted it.

Because the news came as a shock to me, and I didn't want to believe it.

Slinky had said he was getting less and less traffic to the BBS. He shut it down for a month, and removed all FTNs and then brought it back online. He may have shut it down. I received email from him in December.

I followed his posts on FB for Game Portal and chatted with him there on occasion.

He was one of the first sysops that I met when I started getting back into BBS last June. He introduced me and assisted in getting me setup with Game Portal.

So surprised to hear of his passing. My condlences to his family.

Ahhhh - he has a door game server, too. Hmmm - thats an even bigger deal. Agreed, I'm sure shes not too worried about the BBS stuffs, but I would help if she was trying to ask for it.

What is the door game server; if someone carries it lemme know yer BBS so I can come by and check it out...

get used to it. most of us are pushing 50 or older. heart disease is the #1 killer. look at how old and frail digital man is. he tries to cover it up with that cabbie hat but you know he wont be around much longer.
